eBRT2030
The eBRT2030 International Cluster brings together Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Curitiba and Kigali to explore how electric BRT systems can be designed, financed and operated in real conditions.
Selected through an open call with 26 applicant cities, the cluster reflects diverse contexts and levels of BRT maturity. The new City Profiles highlight each city’s transport landscape and key electrification challenges.
Activities in Latin America

In early February, key milestones advanced the E-Moviliza pilot in Ecuador, strengthening both operational readiness and on-the-ground capacity.
A fire safety training was held at the Cross Docking platform, combining emergency protocols with hands-on practice using fire extinguishers, supported by a volunteer from the Santo Domingo Fire Department. The session reinforced safety standards for teams working at the site.
At the same time, a UEMI representative visited Grupo Miral facilities in Ambato alongside Pronaca to test JINMA light electric vehicles. Following the tests, Pronaca expressed strong interest in joining the pilot, further reinforcing private-sector engagement.
The project also reached an important operational step with the official handover of electric vans to Grupo Entregas, which will work with Moderna Alimentos and become the first operator of the Cross Docking system. In parallel, the platform was successfully energized through coordinated work with URLO Studio and Empresa Eléctrica Quito. Four chargers for electric vans are now operational, marking the launch of Quito’s first Cross Docking platform and moving the pilot closer to full operation.
FROM RESEARCH TO IMPACT
Dr. Oliver Lah and Dr. Marc Hasselwander supervised the M.Sc. thesis “Toward a Safe System: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Digitalisation for Sustainable Waste Management in Accra, Ghana,” successfully defended by Julius-Jayson A. Botchway at the Technical University of Berlin.
Graduating as the top student in his cohort with the highest possible grade (1.0), Julius-Jayson’s research tackles urgent urban challenges in Accra, bridging digital innovation and sustainable waste management. His work reflects the strong link between academic excellence and real-world urban transformation fostered within the UEMI network.
