A new MobiliseHER call invites eligible contractors to support a pilot infrastructure intervention at a key multimodal transport interface in Fort Kochi.
Under the MobiliseHER Mobility Lab, UEMI has launched a new public invitation to tender for a pilot intervention in Fort Kochi, India. The call focuses on a site where the bus stand, the Ro-Ro ferry service and the boat jetty come together, shaping a daily space of movement, waiting and interchange.

A pilot rooted in everyday mobility
What makes this tender especially relevant is the kind of space it addresses. Fort Kochi is not only a transport node. It is a place where accessibility, visibility, comfort and safety directly affect how people move through the city.
For many users, especially women, gender minorities, caregivers, older persons and persons with disabilities, these conditions can make a real difference in how easy, stressful or safe a journey feels.
The tender marks an important step from planning to implementation. It aims to support the design and delivery of gender-responsive infrastructure improvements at this multimodal interface, translating local knowledge and participatory planning into visible changes on the ground.
According to the call, this may include accessibility improvements, safety enhancements, lighting and visibility upgrades, signage and wayfinding, as well as associated minor civil works.
From one site to wider learning
The Fort Kochi intervention is also meant to do more than improve one location. As part of the MobiliseHER Mobility Lab, it is framed as a demonstration site for more inclusive mobility solutions, with the potential to generate practical lessons for replication in Kochi and in other Indian cities.
The broader project, MobiliseHER is a three-year project, co-funded by EuropeAid, to enable gender-responsive urban mobility and create more accessible and inclusive infrastructure and services. It is undertaken in partnership with the Urban Electric Mobility Initiative (UEMI), WRI India, CEPT Research and Development Foundation and PRIA India.
The tender follows the PRAG simplified procedure for service contracts, with a maximum budget of EUR 80,000 inclusive of GST. Tenders must be submitted in English by 15 June 2026, 23:59 Berlin time, and requests for clarification can be submitted until 15 May 2026. Full tender documents are available on the UEMI website.
