Digitalising mobility in Latin America: ACCESS kicks off in Argentina

Argentina has just opened a new chapter in digitalisation and sustainable mobility with the launch of ACCESS – Accelerating Access to Low Carbon Urban Mobility Solutions through Digitalization.

The project was designed to measurably reduce GHG emissions from passenger and freight transport systems in cities across Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

Financed by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUKN) and coordinated by UNEP, the project’s implementation in Argentina is led by the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, in collaboration with UN-Habitat Basic Urban Services, UEMI, and ICLEI, with support from Asociación Sustentar.

Introducing ACCESS and exploring the future of digitalised urban mobility

The launch event introduced the project’s objectives and explored the opportunities and challenges linked to the digitalisation of urban transport in Argentina. Participants included national and local transport authorities, private-sector representatives, academia, and civil society, contributing perspectives on both urban logistics and passenger transport.

The programme featured opening remarks from the German Embassy in Argentina and a representative from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Mobility of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires.

Keynote and panel presentations were delivered by experts from CAF, the Transport Secretariat of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, UNEP, and UNSAM, offering a wide lens on the potential of digital tools to strengthen sustainable transport systems.

A collaborative path ahead

A warm thank-you to all participants, speakers and partner institutions for their engagement, insights and commitment. Your contributions lay a strong foundation for the journey ahead.

With ACCESS, we begin a collective effort to shape mobility systems that are smarter, cleaner, more efficient, and more equitable. Together, we can turn digital innovation into transformative action for cities across Latin America.
