The BOOST project is opening doors for young people to thrive in the clean mobility sector. In partnership with SolarTaxi in Ghana, BOOST is driving real change—creating career opportunities and challenging gender barriers in electric mobility.
Through this collaboration, 50 young graduates were trained in electric vehicle (EV) maintenance, battery management, fleet operations, and more. Notably, almost half of the trainees were women.

“The BOOST project allowed us to onboard 50 young interns, many of whom were women. This influx of fresh talent not only increased our capacity but also accelerated knowledge transfer and innovation across the company. The program created a more diverse and dynamic work culture that continues to influence our long-term hiring practices,” shared Givens Manu, Chief of Staff, from Solar Taxi.
A life-changing opportunity for women
The impact of this partnership is best captured by Cecelia’s story. She joined SolarTaxi as an EV maintenance intern, unsure if she could succeed in such a male-dominated field. Supported by female mentors and hands-on learning, Cecelia found her place. She led the assembly of a new electric vehicle prototype and now works full-time at Solar Taxi, supporting her family and inspiring other girls in her community.
“When given the tools, mentorship, and opportunity, women can thrive in technical roles and become powerful change agents in the clean mobility sector,” said Givens.
Building sustainable growth
The BOOST partnership didn’t just support young talent, it transformed SolarTaxi’s internal processes. The company formalized its training programs, strengthened mentorship structures, and built a clear internship-to-employment pipeline, as Givens says.
“The partnership pushed us to develop a more structured, inclusive way of working. Today, we’re seen not just as an EV company, but as a growth hub for young professionals in Ghana”
The interns brought fresh perspectives that continue to shape the company’s way of working and foster innovation.
A gender-balanced clean mobility future
For Solar Taxi, one key lesson is clear: investing in young women isn’t just about representation—it’s a smart, forward-thinking strategy. It builds stronger teams, sparks innovation, and strengthens the future workforce.
According to Givens, SolarTaxi is excited about what’s next: a clean mobility revolution in Africa where women are not just participating, they are leading.
“What excites me most is the possibility of a gender-balanced clean mobility revolution in Africa. We’re seeing a shift—women are becoming EV engineers, entrepreneurs, and policy advocates. If we continue to break barriers and create intentional support systems, the next generation of clean mobility will be both sustainable and inclusive".
