Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Researcher to take a leading role in the BOOST Project and contribute to the eBRT2030 project. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in project management within the international transport sector, particularly in e-mobility, and have a strong background in EU Horizon 2020 or equivalent projects. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful initiatives that aim to revolutionize urban mobility and promote sustainable job creation in Africa and Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership: Oversee the implementation of Project BOOST, ensuring that project milestones are met, and objectives are achieved on time and within budget.

  • Strategic Partnerships: Cultivate and manage partnerships with local entrepreneurs, academic institutions, industry stakeholders, and technical experts to co-develop innovative business concepts that contribute to sustainable development and job creation in the e-mobility sector.

  • Research & Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on the e-mobility sector's job creation potential in Africa and contribute to the development of new strategies for sustainable growth.

  • eBRT2030 Involvement: Support UEMI's role in the eBRT2030 project by coordinating international demonstration pilots in cities such as Quito, Nairobi, and locations in South Africa.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with partners from GIZ, UNEP, UN-Habitat, and others involved in the BOOST project to ensure alignment and successful collaboration.

  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and publications to communicate project progress and outcomes to stakeholders.

  • Meetings & Workshops: Attend monthly meetings in Potsdam and represent UEMI at international conferences, workshops, and events as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: A Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant field such as Urban Planning, Transport Engineering, Environmental Studies, or International Development.

  • Experience:

    • At least 7 years of project management experience in the international transport sector, with a strong emphasis on e-mobility.

    • Proven track record of working on EU Horizon 2020 or equivalent international projects.

    • Experience working in the African context, particularly in sustainable development and job creation initiatives.

  • Skills:

    • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects.

    • Excellent research and analytical skills, with a focus on sustainability and e-mobility.

    • Proficiency in project management software and tools.

    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with fluency in English and basic proficiency in German.

    • Ability to work independently in a remote setting, with regular travel for meetings and fieldwork.
