Approximately half of daily commutes in African cities are on foot, but pedestrians often put their lives at risk by sharing the road with cars in the absence of dedicated non-motorised transport (NMT) infrastructure. In this first webinar, we will be discussing walking as an important mode of transport for safer, healthier, more accessible and more sustainable African cities.
The webinar was hosted by Blake Robinson of ICLEI, and distinguished speakers include: Stefanie Holzwarth, UN-Habitat: Designing streets for safety, accessibility and comfort in African cities Sean Cooke, University of Cape Town: The return on investments in NMT Carly Koinange, UN Environment: Implementing NMT policy with innovative financing
