Brazil commits to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 37% below 2005 levels by 2025. The countries National Determined Contributions also contain a subsequent indicative contribution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 43% below 2005 levels in 2030.
The NDC measures and targets give significant prominence to LULUCF, e.g.:
- Energy mix: increasing the share of sustainable biofuels in the Brazilian energy mix to approx. 18% by 2030
- Energy sector: achieving 45% of renewables in the energy mix by 2030
Cuenca - Ecuador
Ecuador, responsible for 0.15% of the world GHG emissions, aims to reduce its energy related GHG emissions up to 45%, depending on the support of the international community. Ecuador plans to replace the commercial and public transport fleet with more efficient vehicles, constructing a vast bicycle network with 157 km cycling lanes already constructed and another 70 km under construction.
